We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our Powertrain and Electronics Battery Engineering team in San Carlos, CA to support development of the Joby S4 Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicle. This individual will be responsible for designing hardware for various systems that power and control the aircraft. This position requires a relentless drive for engineering excellence and the ability to balance complex competing objectives and priorities. The position will work cross-functionally and be responsible for the entire development cycle from early architecture through production.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Design components, subassemblies, and systems</li> <li>Perform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisions</li> <li>Plan/execute development tests to support design decisions</li> <li>Work with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardware</li> <li>Work with the testing team to support verification testing of hardware</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering</li> <li>3+ years of demonstrated engineering experience - preferably “full-stack” with exposure to test, design, equipment/component selection, hands-on builds, bring-up and troubleshooting</li> <li>Proficiency with professional 3D modeling software, preferably with Catia 3D Experience </li> <li>Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysis</li> <li>Excellent problem solving and communication skills</li> <li>Strong analytical background – able to use first principles to drive/inform design</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline</li> <li>5+ years of working experience in automotive or aerospace industry</li> <li>Experience with Dassault Systemes CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design</li> <li>Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus)</li> <li>Direct battery engineering experience</li></ul><h2>Additional Information</h2><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,200 - $130,900/yr.
