A focus will be driving senior-level government engagement in Japan to advance Climate Bonds’ rapid energy transition aims as well as exploring levers to accelerate the transition in the broader region.  Duties and responsibilities:Policy leadership, delivery and advisory <ul><li>Act as CBI’s lead representative for the project on policy matters, demonstrating expertise and in-depth understanding of topics such as energy, manufacturing and economic transition and its financing, sustainable finance regulations and climate policies. </li></ul><ul><li>Contribute to the design and dissemination of policy positions, products and technical materials relevant to the project’s transition agenda. </li></ul><ul><li>Understand, identify and pursue relevant opportunities within the Japanese policy-making process. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide advisory support to relevant domestic institutions on aligning finance and investment with net-zero pathways. </li></ul><ul><li>Support the broader organisation in understanding the Japanese, and regional, policy context and how it interacts with broader CBI work, with possible synergies. </li></ul><ul><li>Work with other CBI teams on the above.  </li></ul>Project leadership and delivery  <ul><li>Serve as lead for the project, ensuring strategic alignment with organisational objectives. </li></ul><ul><li>Ensure delivery of project milestones, including delivery of project reports  </li></ul><ul><li>Work with CBI technical and production teams to ensure quality of policy deliverables. </li></ul><ul><li>Proactively coordinating across internal policy stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment, consistency, and high-quality delivery. </li></ul>Stakeholder Engagement <ul><li>Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy to promote transition finance in Japan and Indonesia. </li></ul><ul><li>Coordinate with Region Lead on stakeholder engagement </li></ul><ul><li>Build and maintain strong networks of stakeholders across governments, regulators, financial institutions, and industry bodies (e.g. METI, MoE, JFSA, JICA) </li></ul><ul><li>Convene dialogues, roundtables, and consultations with government, regulators, and private sector actors to foster alignment and build consensus. </li></ul>Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) <ul><li>Work with the Global MEL Lead to deliver MEL framework.  </li></ul><ul><li>Support learning reviews, donor reporting and contribute to cross-regional and global knowledge sharing. </li></ul>Representation &amp; Advocacy <ul><li>Represent CBI at high-level national &amp; international events, conferences &amp; fora. </li></ul><ul><li>Act as a spokesperson for CBI’s policy agenda in Japan. </li></ul>RequirementsEssential:<ul><li>In-depth knowledge and experience of Japan’s energy, finance, and industry policy landscape. </li></ul><ul><li>Native-level Japanese language skills and strong fluency in English, including strong writing skills. </li></ul><ul><li>Capacity to quickly establish a network with key government and financial stakeholders (e.g., METI, MoE, JFSA, JICA). </li></ul><ul><li>Extensive experience of the Japanese policy-making process, with proven ability to identify and leverage influential points of engagement. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong track record of policy development, advocacy, or advisory roles in climate, finance, or energy. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience of representing an organisation in high-level policy or public forums. </li></ul><ul><li>Proven ability to act as a senior policy lead or project sponsor, overseeing complex projects. </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to operate in cross-cultural environments</li></ul>Desirable:<ul><li>Experience in climate finance, transition pathways, or policy advocacy in international settings. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with donor reporting, grant compliance, and multi-year programme delivery. </li></ul><ul><li>Awareness of international climate policy processes. </li></ul><ul><li>Master’s degree in public policy, economics, finance, environmental studies, or related and relevant fields </li></ul>Benefits<ul> <li>Opportunity to work with a global team on stimulating projects that have a positive impact globally</li> <li>Work with Thought Leaders and grow your career</li> <li>Opportunity to be creative and innovative</li> <li>NGO Competitive salary</li> <li>Remote and flexible working</li> <li>A family-friendly and inclusive environment</li> <li>25+ days holiday</li> </ul>

The Climate Bonds Initiative is an international, investor-focused not-for-profit and the only organisation in the world working to mobilise the $100 trillion bond market for climate change solutions. 

Supported by a 50-member Advisory Panel, CBI has an international stakeholder base among institutional investors, NGOs and the finance sector.

The aim is to develop a large and liquid Green and Climate Bonds market that will help drive down the cost of capital for climate projects and improve access to lower-cost debt in emerging markets.
