Division:           Water Infrastructure, GqeberhaREPORTS TO    Section ManagerKEY RESPONSIBILITIES The RE will be responsible for the following elements of the construction works under his/her responsibility:<ul><li>Contract Administration acting as Resident Engineer for this project.</li><li>Reviewing the construction drawings and managing the processes of dealing with Contractor queries by liaising with the designers through the required communication lines.</li><li>Inspection of the works and test results for quality control.</li><li>Preparing and updating estimates to completion.</li><li>Maintaining records of site administration and communication in terms SMEC’s quality management system and Construction Manual.</li><li>Attending and contributing to taking minutes at technical and site meetings.</li><li>Maintaining monthly progress reports.</li><li>Liaison with clients and contractors and Managing resources for site supervision.</li><li>Monitoring of quality of works.</li><li>Monitoring of programme and contract budgets.</li><li>Assist with handling claims.</li><li>Preparation of variation orders.</li><li>Supervise junior staff (Assistant Resident Engineer);</li><li>Closing out projects including compiling completion/closeout reports; and Monitoring of Environmental Management Programs</li></ul>RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE <ul><li>The Resident Engineer shall hold as a minimum a BSc, BEng or BTech (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years’ experience in construction projects of which at least 5 years have been spent as a Resident Engineer.</li><li>Experience with reinforced concrete, water retaining structures will be advantageous.</li><li>The Resident Engineer should be professionally registered with ECSA</li><li>The Resident Engineer should have extensive experience in the use and interpretation of major conditions of contract and in managing contractual issues.  (Experience with FIDIC Redbook will be advantageous.)</li><li>Experience of working in Southern Africa is preferred.</li></ul>We are proud of the brilliant minds we have at SMEC and are committed to ensuring that our people have the best opportunities and resources to learn, grow and succeed.
