This role offers opportunities to work with the SmartRent Manager team. While the overarching goal is to design and implement high-quality software solutions, each team has a unique focus that contributes to our unified platform and solutions. Overall, the Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in driving the success of our team by improving standards, mentoring team members, reworking existing code, and developing new features and functionality for our products and solutions.Responsibilities<ul><li>Lead the design of vital components and features. </li><li>Partner with product managers, designers, and QA engineers to deliver secure, scalable solutions. </li><li>Engineers are encouraged to take initiative in identifying opportunities for improvements and are expected to contribute innovative solutions and ideas for product enhancements, in addition to those proposed by the product team.</li><li>Write clean, maintainable code (Elixir, React, React Native) following best practices.</li><li>Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and advocate for engineering standards.</li><li>Optimize performance, refactor legacy systems, and ensure backward/forward compatibility.</li><li>Design and optimize scalable React-based UI components for property staff/resident applications, refactor legacy codebases, and collaborate on design systems to unify platform functionality and user experience.</li><li>Design foundational infrastructure using Elixir for shared features (auth, event processing). Develop REST APIs for internal and third-party tools. Optimize systems handling billions of IoT events.</li><li>Identify, evaluate, and integrate AI tools and techniques to enhance development efficiency and optimize product performance.</li><li>Perform other duties as required.</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and,</li><li>4-6 years of software development experience with all of the following or specific to the role: cloud message APIs and usage of push notifications + experience in Azure DevOps, git (and modern build pipelines like Webpack, Babel), CI/CD pipelines and agile development process methodology plus experience with JavaScript, AngularJS, TypeScript, Node.JS, HTML, CSS, C++, C#, Python, MySQL, jQuery, web services, RESTful API, and modern frameworks like React or React Native.</li><li>3 years of professional software development experience using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks like React or React Native.</li><li>Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous requests.</li><li>Familiarity with version control tools like Git and modern build pipelines (Webpack, Babel).</li><li>Excellent written/verbal communication skills and attention to detail.</li><li>Design and maintain foundational infrastructure for SmartRent’s ecosystem of products. Develop Elixir-based services for shared features. Design REST APIs for internal tools and third-party integrations. Optimize systems handling billions of monthly IoT device events.</li><li>An additional four years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree, in addition to the minimum experience requirements listed below.</li><li>Refactor legacy interfaces for scalability and usability.
