Our products are based on “outside-the-lab” platforms, and include hand-held, wearable, emplaced, and UxV mounted sensors and detectors. Teledyne FLIR’s sensors and detectors generate feature-rich data sets that lead to accurate detection and identification of threats.  The research scientist is expected to understand the principles of our core technologies and conduct development and testing of cheminformatics and machine learning algorithms to improve accuracy and reliability of sensor and detector outputs.Primary Duties &amp; Responsibilities:<ul><li>Use Data Science methods, including, but not limited to, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning approaches to perform sample classification, molecule identification, data processing (e.g. filtering, baselining), feature recognition, feature extraction, alarm threshold determination, pattern matching, statistical trending, scoring of detection quality, and integration of other information into decision making.</li><li>Collaborate with other technologists within Teledyne on application of AI/ML to system level data fusion, e.g. combining CBRNE sensor outputs with other information in AR/VR or other situational awareness modalities</li><li>Plan, design, and conduct data acquisition on sensor prototypes to drive algorithm development</li><li>Report results to manager and project team for 1 or more projects on a weekly basis</li><li>Compile reports and participate in customer reviews in West Lafayette and in the field.</li></ul>Job Qualifications:<ul><li>Background must include:<ul><li>PhD degree in a cheminformatics-related field, such as chemistry, biology, biochemistry, engineering, or computer science, or an MS degree with 3+ years of experience</li><li>Experience in data science, modeling, algorithm development, and/or AI/ML methods</li><li>Experience using (and analyzing data outputs from) analytical spectrometers, mass spectrometers, and chemiresistive sensors strongly preferred</li><li>Wet chemistry lab experience</li><li>Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) skills required</li><li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills</li><li>Ability to effectively communicate and interact with team members and customers</li><li>Experience with machine learning models such as random forest, multilayer perceptron, convolutional neural networks</li><li>Experience with transformer networks and encoders/decoders is strongly preferred</li><li>Deep Python or R programming expertise, or equivalent experience with a related programming language such as C, C++, C#, etc.</li><li>Experience using visual statistical analysis software</li></ul></li><li>Proven experience required<ul><li>Perform basic test design – define the question being asked and develop single-variable experiments to answer</li><li>Act independently to drive experimentation &amp; testing</li><li>Drive toward solutions to project goals</li><li>Compile data in a way it can be shared across the organization on a weekly basis</li><li>Able to troubleshoot and resolve science and project issues</li><li>Work professionally as part of a cohesive team, and communicate with team members to ensure project goals and timelines are met</li></ul></li></ul>Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.#FLIR  Teledyne and all of our employees are committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards.
