Non-CO2 gases account for nearly half of all global warming from human activity since 1970.  Our work, referred to as “emergency brake solutions” by <a href="https://drawdown.org/news/insights/hitting-the-%E2%80%9Cemergency-brake%E2%80%9D-on-climate" style="color:#0563c1;text-decoration:underline;">Project Drawdown</a>, is essential to prevent catastrophic climate change. Our projects include the destruction of refrigerants and halon fire suppressants that are potent greenhouse gases and deplete the ozone layer. We also find, measure, and plug orphaned oil and gas wells that have no solvent operator and are leaking methane into the atmosphere. To date, we have permanently prevented over 7.5 million tons of CO2e from reaching the atmosphere and we are on a path to surpass 27 million tons of CO2e by the end of 2027.  The Opportunity The Director of Verification &amp; Methodology position links key components of Tradewater’s work – a mastery of carbon offset protocols, management of the movement and destruction of greenhouse gases globally, and project documentation and quality control to ensure that all of Tradewater’s work meets the requirements of carbon offset protocols in a manner that can be successfully verified. While Tradewater is based in Chicago, we have offices and team members around the world. The Director of Verification and Methodology position is primarily remote, however candidates must be available, able and willing to travel according to the requirements listed below, including internationally as needed. This role will report to our Chief Impact Officer, located in Washington state. Applications for this position will be accepted through April 4, 2025. Key responsibilities include: <ul><li style="margin-left:8px;">Manage and lead a small team of trained professionals responsible for ensuring the successful validation and verification of Tradewater’s carbon offset projects. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Work as part of a team of professionals to build a pipeline of projects that will identify, collect, and destroy harmful refrigerants and prevent the release of methane all over the world.</li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Lead company efforts to revise existing carbon offset protocols and develop new methodologies as regulations change and as science dictates. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Anticipate strategic opportunities to engage with new or evolving methodologies and carbon registries globally, in ways that allow Tradewater to expand our reach and impact.  </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Build systems and processes to ensure that all of Tradewater’s carbon offset projects are effectively validated and verified in a timely manner according to recognized protocols and established methodologies. This includes managing the preparation of appropriate evidence and documentation for each project, leading meetings with external stakeholders, and coordinating the development and submission of validation and verification reports. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Build and manage a network of third-party partnerships in order to support Tradewater's verification needs, including registries and verifiers. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Expand Tradewater’s network of laboratories and hazardous waste management facilities. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure that projects are developed and implemented in ways that ensure successful validation and verification of the work. This includes developing standard operating procedures for certain activities, coordinating research and analysis and other processes in different countries around the world, and deeply understanding and interpreting relevant carbon offset protocols and methodologies. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">In cooperation with the Data and Analytics team, ensure Tradewater uses appropriate document management systems, databases, and forms to make the verification process as efficient and effective as possible. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Support teams at Tradewater as needed to confirm that destruction facilities and methane abatement processes meet international protocols and meet the standards of all applicable carbon offset registries. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Oversee all department transactions associated with verifiers, registries, and contractors. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Create and share detailed reports with stakeholders of all levels within and outside of the organization, including C-Suite/executive level stakeholders.   </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Develop and implement long-term and annual plans aligned with Supply Team efforts. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Define, measure, and report to the CIO on key performance metrics for the department. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Utilize current information to strategically plan the department activities to meet or exceed company deliverables and goals. </li></ul> Requirements: <ul><li style="margin-left:8px;">Have at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field, which could include Industrial or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Sustainability. Degrees related to policy, government, or law are also desirable. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">5+ years of relevant work experience in carbon project development, carbon offset protocols, carbon markets, and working with carbon offset registries, with a strong preference for ODS or methane carbon projects. </li><li style="margin-left:8px;">Experience working in other countries or working on projects or teams that span multiple countries. Salary &amp; Benefits The expected annual salary range for a U.S. based candidate is between $130,000 and $135,000 USD. Tradewater is seeking a New Developments Manager to support the exploration and development of new efforts of work across all countries, including LATAM, MENA, APAC and others. This person will work in close partnership with our Senior Projects Manager, and with dotted line oversight of all of the efforts across the team.   The position works remotely from any time zone preferably within the range of UTC – UTC+3 time zone. The position is primarily remote, however candidates must be available, able and willing to travel according to the requirements listed below, including internationally as needed. The position will report to the Senior Director of International Programs based in Costa Rica.
